About Kupenda

Kupenda was created by two of Daniel's passions - coffee and people.

In 2008 Daniel removed himself from the bustle of a corporate world, which he had been working in for the previous 7 years, and left Australia to see the rest of the world.

His travels led him to Kenya and whilst living and working there, Daniel and his wife Briony met some amazing people in this amazing place.

They worked across a number of projects, including:

  • Internally Displaced Camps
  • Orphanages
  • Medical clinics in slums
  • Community outreach clinics in remote regions (where they were building solar-powered fridges to be saddled on camels!)
  • A street boys home

As a result they were able to experience the complexities, joys, and the extraordinary people of Kenya.

The situations, environment and people of Africa impacted and changed Daniels outlook on life, leading to a new perspective on what is important. His purpose for Kupenda as a business became clear.

Over this time Daniel met searchers, local people who had seen a need and decided to meet that need with the people and for the people of the local area in which they live.

Through Kupenda Daniel decided to give these searchers a hand up not a hand out and walk along side them to see real change and transformation in their lives. The bottom line is Kupenda commits a percentage of profits towards these specific projects – no compromises!

So what about the coffee connection......... Daniel's passion for coffee has existed ever since his first espresso in 1995 whilst working as an apprentice chef in an Italian restaurant.

Daniel's concept of Kupenda has been developed and refined over a 4 year period. His interest and commitment to delivery of premium coffee has been fostered and enhanced by his association with industry leading cafe owners throughout Brisbane. Daniel's connection with a renowned Australian coffee roaster will allow Kupenda to remain a market leader in quality, consistency, taste and most of all freshness.

The Kupenda team consists of a wealth of experience in roasting with a swag of medals to prove it! Blends are roasted to a "Trieste" style. This northern Italy style of roasting allows the full flavour to be released from the bean without bitterness. Kupenda roasts its 100% Arabica organic beans locally here in Australia.

In a nutshell the coffee is premium, it tastes amazing and above all, profit contributions directly help change peoples' lives.
